Does Robinhood Have an AI Trading Bot? What's Official and What Isn't

Robinhood now offers official ways to let AI agents trade, but a lot of what is sold as a Robinhood trading bot is not official at all. Here is how to tell the difference.

As of October 2026. Robinhood's AI features are changing quickly, so confirm the current details in its help center.

If you search for a Robinhood AI trading bot, you will find a messy mix: Robinhood's own new agent features, an AI assistant, third-party software that claims to connect to your account, and outright scams dressed up with Robinhood's name. They are not the same thing, and the differences matter for your money and your account.

This is educational content, not investment advice.

The Short Answer

Robinhood does not sell a single product called a trading bot. It does offer three different AI-related things, and one clear rule about everything else:

  1. Official agent trading: you can let an AI agent place trades in a dedicated Robinhood account, either through a built-in agent or through a third-party AI assistant connected via Robinhood's official MCP server.
  2. Cortex: an AI assistant that answers questions and helps you build orders, but does not trade on its own.
  3. Everything else: unofficial bots and scripts, which Robinhood does not allow, and scams that borrow the language.

Official Option 1: Robinhood's Agent Features

In May 2026 Robinhood launched Agentic Trading in beta, letting customers connect a third-party AI agent to a dedicated, separate account. In late September it added Robinhood Agents, an agent built into the mobile app, with a rollout Fortune reported as reaching roughly 29 million customers.

In practice this is the closest thing Robinhood has to an official trading bot. Key points from Robinhood's documentation:

  • The agent can only place trades in its own dedicated agentic account, funded by you.
  • Agents can research, analyze portfolios, and place several order types.
  • Built-in agents ask for your approval on each trade by default. For external agents, Robinhood's documentation says approvals are off by default, which means they can act without a per-trade confirmation unless you change the setting.
  • Robinhood says it does not control, supervise, monitor, recommend, or audit agents, and that you are ultimately responsible for the trades.

For the full picture, read our explainer on how Robinhood agentic trading works.

Official Option 2: Cortex Is an Assistant, Not a Bot

Cortex is Robinhood's AI assistant. A few verified details from Robinhood's US support page:

  • It is available to Robinhood Gold subscribers (Gold is listed at $5 a month on that page).
  • It can analyze your portfolio, research markets, build custom screeners, track news, and help create orders.
  • It can create an order, but you must review and submit it yourself. It cannot independently execute trades or transfers.
  • Robinhood states it cannot give buy or sell recommendations or predict future price moves, and that it is not an investment advisor.

A related feature, Cortex Digests, uses generative AI to summarize why a stock may be moving. Robinhood describes it as informational, not advice or research.

So if you are asking whether Robinhood has an AI that sets trades up for you, yes, Cortex does that, but a human presses the final button. If you want an AI that places the trade, that is the agent product above.

Unofficial Bots and API Scripts: Robinhood Says No

This is where many searches for the best trading bot for Robinhood lead, and it is where you need caution. Robinhood's support page on third-party connections is direct: it does not allow trading APIs to be linked to your Robinhood account without written authorization from Robinhood, and it does not allow third-party applications to control or take action on your Robinhood app. It also says official third-party services will not ask for your login credentials or password.

In practice, that means:

  • Scripts using your username and password (the kind found in some open-source projects and tutorials) are outside what Robinhood permits.
  • Bots sold as plug-and-play Robinhood automation are, by Robinhood's own stated rules, not authorized unless they connect through an official, approved route.
  • Account risk is real. We could not find a single published policy that spells out the penalty for every kind of unauthorized automation, so we will not claim exactly what Robinhood does in each case. Several third-party guides say violations can lead to account restrictions or closure. Treat that as a risk, not a certainty.
  • Security risk is separate. Giving login details to any software or website puts your whole account within reach of whoever runs it.

Robinhood's May announcement framed its MCP approach as an alternative to relying on unofficial APIs. If you want automation, the official route is the one Robinhood has built, with its own safeguards. Note that Robinhood also publishes separate crypto API documentation for developers, which is its own product with its own terms; this article does not cover it.

Scam Warning: "Robinhood AI Trading Bot" Ads

Where there is hype, there are scams. Regulators have warned about this for years, and the Robinhood news cycle makes it easier for fraudsters to look credible.

What regulators say:

  • A January 2024 joint investor alert from the SEC's investor education office, NASAA, and FINRA warned about unregistered platforms making claims like "Our proprietary AI trading system can't lose!" and called claims of high guaranteed returns with little or no risk classic signs of fraud. It also urged investors to verify registration and to avoid decisions based only on AI-generated information.
  • The CFTC's customer advisory, "AI Won't Turn Trading Bots into Money Machines," describes schemes promising returns such as 10% a month or 100% win rates, and notes that AI cannot predict the future. It cites the Mirror Trading International case, in which more than 23,000 people lost over $1.7 billion in bitcoin. It also warns that fake account balances can be made with demo accounts.
  • Robinhood's own scam guidance says it will never ask for your password, 2FA code, or secret recovery phrase, that impersonation scams often come through search results and social ads, and that suspicious messages can be reported to reportphishing@robinhood.com.

Red flags specific to Robinhood bot ads:

  1. A promise of guaranteed or steady high returns
  2. A request for your Robinhood password, 2FA code, or recovery phrase
  3. Pressure to deposit money with the "bot provider" instead of in your own account
  4. A demand to move to WhatsApp, Telegram, or a private chat
  5. Influencer endorsements with no verifiable track record
  6. A site or phone number you found through an ad or search, rather than inside the Robinhood app

If a legitimate offer exists, you should be able to verify the company's registration, read its disclosures, and keep your money in your own brokerage account. For checks, see the SEC's Investor.gov and FINRA's BrokerCheck.

Does Robinhood Allow Bot Trading?

Yes through the official channels, with caveats: agents connected via Robinhood's MCP server or built into the app are allowed and come with Robinhood's safeguards. No, for unauthorized trading APIs and scripts tied to your account, based on the language in Robinhood's support pages. If a vendor says its product is approved by Robinhood, ask for proof, and confirm it in Robinhood's help center rather than on the vendor's own site.

Decision Guide

  • You want an AI to explain or prepare ideas: Cortex, if you have Gold.
  • You want an AI to place trades, with oversight: a built-in Robinhood Agent with approvals on.
  • You already use an AI assistant and want it to trade: the official MCP route, covered in our guide to connecting AI agents to Robinhood.
  • You see a bot for sale that asks for your login: walk away.

Risks to Keep in View Even With the Official Tools

AI agents can lose money quickly, can act on bad or outdated data, and can misread what you meant. Options and margin raise the stakes. With approvals off, no one reviews a trade first. Set limits, fund the account lightly, and know how to disconnect.
