Government Postpones Stress Test Release As Banks Debate Results - 4/30/2009 9:19:50 PM

According to comments from government and industry officials, the Federal Reserve will be delaying the release of preliminary results of its stress tests as executives debate its findings with the government's examiners. According to unnamed sources, the results from the government's stress tests, which were originally scheduled to be released May 4th, may not be released until the end of next week. The government may announce a new date for its release as soon as tomorrow. The 19 major US banks under examination include Citigroup (NYSE:C), Bank of America (NYSE:BAC), Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS), GMAC (NYSE:GM), MetLife (NYSE:MET), Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS), Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) as well as a number of regional banks including Regions Financial Corp. (NYSE:RF), Fifth Third Bancorp (NASDAQ:FITB).
