The Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday that Botox injections used to relax uncontrollable muscle movements could have potentially fatal side effects. Botox is more widely know for treating wrinkles but the botulin-based drug can also be used to treat muscle-spasm conditions. In some cases the drug can cause paralysis or weakening of the muscles used for breathing or swallowing. The FDA is now requiring companies that manufacture Botox, like Allergan (NYSE:AGN), to increase warning labels on their products and conduct additional safety studies.
