Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) plans on increasing the rental fee on Blu-ray disk rentals by 20% starting as early as April 27. Netflix said it has experienced a 60% increase in demand over the past six months for Blu-ray formatted disks. About 10% of Netflix customers choose Blu-ray disks over standard DVD rentals. Netflix feels that it can charge more for Blu-ray rentals because these disks sell to consumers in stores for up to 30% more than standard DVDs. Netflix currently charges $1 more for Blu-ray disk rentals.
