Electronic Arts Reports 2Q Loss - 12/11/2008 2:22:28 AM

Thursday evening, video game publisher Electronic Arts, Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) announced a loss for the quarter ended September 30, 2008. The company announced a net loss of $310 million, or 97 cents per share. Excluding restructuring charges, the company would have lost 6 cents, or $20 million, in-line with average estimates. Last year the company reported a net loss of $195 million, or 62 cents per share in the same period. Revenue in the quarter increased 40 percent to $894 million. However, adjusted sales, which exclude deferred revenue, were $1.13 billion beating expectations for $1.08 billion. Electronic Arts has reduced its forecasted earnings for the fiscal year to $1.00 to $1.40, leaving revenue projections untouched at $5.0 billion to $5.3 billion. Originally the company had been forecasting earnings of $1.30 to $1.70 per share. When the market closed Thursday, shares of Electronic Arts were down 31 cents to $27.73.
