Friday, Fortune Brands (NYSE:FO) reported third-quarter net income of $335.9 million, or $2.21 per share. Net income for the same quarter in 2007 was $209 million, or $1.33 per share. Total sales for the quarter fell 10% to $1.92 billion, compared to $2.15 billion a year-ago. Analysts' expected third-quarter earnings of $1.09 per share.
