Today, the U.S.'s second largest phone company, Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ), announced earnings results for its 2Q. Profit rose to $1.88 billion, or $0.66 per share, from $1.68 billion, or $0.58 in the year-ago period. Revenue increased 3.7% to $24.1 billion from $23.3 billion last year. 1.5 million new wireless subscriptions allowed the cell phone provider unit's revenue to rise 12% to $12.1 billion.
