Today, the Pentagon announced that due to flaws found and confirmed by Government Accountability Office in the original bidding process, between Boeing (NYSE:BA) and Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) partnered with the European parent of Airbus, would be reopened to reach a new uncontested winner to manufacture the next generation of aerial tankers. Defense Secretary Robert Gates hopes for an "expedited recompetition" to decide who would receive the contract worth an estimated $35 billion. This decision will reconstitute the selection committee but place them under new leadership to focus on the key points disputed under Boeings claims.
