3/10/2010-According to comments made Tuesday, Chevron (NYSE:CVX) plans to cut 2,000 positions in 2010 and spinoff various overseas operations in an effort to streamline its struggling refinery and transportations operations.
The Dow component's planned cuts represents 3% of its global workforce and 12% of what is known as the downstream part of its business that has 17,000 workers.
Company spokesman Lloyd Avram said that executives are still discussing where they plan to cut employees as they struggle to complete the restructuring plans by the end of the third quarter.
The energy firm said it is also looking for bids for its Pembroke refinery in southwest Wales as well as its fuels marketing, aviation and lubricants business in the Caribbean.
