11/23/2009 - GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE:GSK) said it's withdrawing its application for U.S. approval of its drug Avodart, according to an AP report. The drug is used for treating symptoms of an enlarged prostate. The company said it wants to provide an update to its application to the FDA and said that its decision is not due to any new findings related to safety or effectiveness of Avodart. Research has shown that Avodart could reduce the risk of prostate cancer by 25%.
