7/31/2009 - eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) is developing software that it might use to continue running the online telecommunications service Skype if the company is unable to resolve a legal dispute with Sweden-based Joltid Ltd. over licensing technology. In a filing to the SEC, eBay said that it is in the development stage of an alternative to the technology it currently licenses from Joltid. In the filing, the company said, "If Skype was to lose the right to use the Joltid software as the result of the litigation, and if alternative software was not available, Skype would be severely and adversely affected and the continued operation of Skype's business as currently conducted would likely not be possible."
