Top 5 Companies in the Property & Casualty Insurance Industry With the Highest Return on Equity (NYM, PGR, OB, AFSI, UVE)

Below are the top five companies in the Property & Casualty Insurance industry as measured by return on equity (ROE). The ROE is a general indication of the company's efficiency; Investors usually look for companies with ROEs that are high and are growing.
NYMAGIC (NYSE:NYM) ranks first with an ROE of 24.8%; Progressive (NYSE:PGR) ranks second with an ROE of 24.5%; and OneBeacon Insurance Group (NYSE:OB) ranks third with an ROE of 24%.
Amtrust Financial Services (NASDAQ:AFSI) follows with an ROE of 22.1% and Universal Insurance Holdings (AMEX:UVE) rounds out the top five with an ROE of 22%.
